Strengthening Afghan Civil Society: BEST’s Capacity Building Programmes
Since 2006, BEST has played a pivotal role in strengthening the civil society ecosystem across Afghanistan, training and mentoring more than 60 civil society organizations through direct and indirect support programmes.
BEST’s civil society work includes training CSOs in project design, proposal writing, report writing, monitoring and evaluation, and financial management; providing re-granting support to local CSOs to implement community-based initiatives; and promoting gender mainstreaming, accountability, and transparency across the sector.
Civil Society Support Centres established in Ghazni, Logar, and Bamyan provinces serve as resource hubs for local organizations. This work builds on BEST’s foundational experience implementing the I-PACS I & II civil society strengthening programmes with Counterpart International and USAID between 2006 and 2012.
BEST is a member of the Afghanistan Civil Society Coalition Against Corruption (AFCAC) and an active contributor to local peace and governance forums.
