Mobile Health Clinics Bring Essential Care to Remote Communities in Kunar and Nuristan

In some of Afghanistan’s most hard-to-reach mountainous areas, access to basic healthcare has long been out of reach for many families. BEST’s mobile health clinics in Kunar and Nuristan are helping to change that.

Operating on a mobile and community-based delivery model, the clinics provide maternal and newborn care including antenatal, postnatal, and safe delivery services, immunization and child nutrition support, diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses, and health awareness sessions covering hygiene promotion and reproductive health education. Complicated cases are referred to district and provincial hospitals.

This work forms part of BEST’s expansion into the health sector in response to growing humanitarian and public health needs, and has transformed access to essential medical services for communities that would otherwise go without.
